It’s been a month with a variety of photo assignments. Everything from gardening gloves to business portraits, to hi-tech medical devices. I was recently at a medical device company that makes equipment for hospitals. They have several rooms for production, all of which were photographed. The most interesting room, the “clean room” was just that, very clean. I was put in a suit to limit dust and dirt, and all my equipment was washed down with alcohol. The images were fun to create as everything was shiny and had a hi-tech look so I could create that look with the existing equipment. I have also been working with hospitals and their marketing materials, including billboards and wall murals. Tomorrow I’m doing some work with YMCA here in town. I’ll be capturing images of the kids enjoying everything the Y has to offer, which will be used for a sign that will hang in the building as part of the annual fundraiser. It will be a nice change of pace from the typical medical/portrait work I usually am engaged in.

The last few weeks have seen me photographing quite a few business portraits as well as some group portraits. I’m currently working on a higher tech photo shoot scheduled for Monday. The company I’m working with has some high tech lasers and other high tech imaging machines used for skin repair and wrinkle removal. The goal of the shoot is to show off the high tech equipment in an eye-catching way. In addition, we want to show the doctor and technicians as friendly, competent, and knowledgable. One of the major challenges with this shoot is we also want the images to maintain the quaint and comfortable environment where the services are provided. That means I’ll be using blue filters on some lights to create the high tech look, and orange, pink, magenta, and yellow filters on other lights to create the warm, organic look we also want. It will be one of the most challenging shoots I have ever done.

Last week was a busy week for business portraits. Thursday I had 7 folks, Friday 6 more. Bringing the energy required to photograph that many people can be exhausting, but very rewarding as well. Last Wednesday was the marketing seminar that 6 of us put on in Rochester. It was very successful, with over 40 business people in attendance. We showed them how our various marketing expertise can help them grow their businesses. I have already received several requests for more information. Now it’s back to the Vikings, hopefully Favre isn’t hurt too bad.

I’m busy designing my presentation for our upcoming marketing seminar. Wednesday, January 20th, the Rochester Business Builders will kick off our first marketing seminar. Six professionals from different marketing venues will spend about 20 minutes each speaking about their professions and some of the options available to other business owners as far as marketing is concerned. It is a free seminar from 8:30-12:30 at the Woodlake Meeting Center in Rochester. Register online at www.rochesterbusinessbuilders.com. If you can’t make it, they’ll be plenty of other opportunities to see yours truly present similar information, as we’re planning to offer this seminar quarterly. I hope everyone reading this can attend as this will be a very informative and worthwhile event! (Did I mention we’ll even feed you a light breakfast!) Hope to see you there!

Yesterday we had a very successful healthcare shoot. Several of the images will be featured in their monthly magazine, and 1 or 2 others will be used on billboards. One image will go on the cover of a brochure, and the remaining images will be used in the monthly newsletter. It was a long day, but I’m very happy to have created enough images that can be used so diversely, and all in a one day shoot. The creative director was pleased with everything we captured, and it’s always good to keep the boss happy. Everyone have a great holiday season, I’ll be back with more in 2010!

After finishing up a very exciting photo shoot of electrodes for a sales brochure, I had a woman come in who spent several hours posing for a business portrait. We had a great time trying different poses and lighting ideas until we came up with several very flattering images. It was fun to have someone posing for the camera who understood basic modeling techniques so I could focus on shooting and lighting and not worry about posing. Hopefully she’ll be able to bring in some client who need portraits and we can do a shoot similar to this one.
