Grandma’s Marathon
Last weekend was exciting as I had the opportunity to photograph Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN from a helicopter. While I’ve shot from small planes many times, I haven’t had the opportunity to shoot from a helicopter before. We raced up to the starting line at 120 mph with no doors on the chopper about 10 feet above the water. It was really cool. We photographed and shot video of the start, a few scenic spots along the course and the most important shot, Canal Park with the Aerial Lift Bridge. Then I was down on the course for a couple miles on my bike photographing volunteers and runners. It’s the shoot I look forward to the most every year.
