Medical Devices
It’s been a month with a variety of photo assignments. Everything from gardening gloves to business portraits, to hi-tech medical devices. I was recently at a medical device company that makes equipment for hospitals. They have several rooms for production, all of which were photographed. The most interesting room, the “clean room” was just that, very clean. I was put in a suit to limit dust and dirt, and all my equipment was washed down with alcohol. The images were fun to create as everything was shiny and had a hi-tech look so I could create that look with the existing equipment. I have also been working with hospitals and their marketing materials, including billboards and wall murals. Tomorrow I’m doing some work with YMCA here in town. I’ll be capturing images of the kids enjoying everything the Y has to offer, which will be used for a sign that will hang in the building as part of the annual fundraiser. It will be a nice change of pace from the typical medical/portrait work I usually am engaged in.
Group business portrait
I just wrapped up several shoots, including a group business portrait. With four people to put into the portrait, it was tricky to get a position for everyone that looked nice. I think the results are quite pleasing and the client was very happy with the results. Check the business portraits of my website, www.jloye.com, to see the final image.
Portraits
It’s been a busy day. I’ve had 2 physical therapists from Fairview in to get their updated business portraits. Then I had 2 phone calls for business portraits from other folks. I spent a few minutes showing them how I soften wrinkles, remove blemishes, and remove dark spots under eyes with Photoshop. They were impressed with how much can be adjusted. After finishing all 4 portraits, it was back to work on the electrodes I photographed for a manufacturer. Because the electrodes have a sticky back, the edges tend to look a little ragged, so I used Photoshop to touch up the edges, which is quite tedious. Ultimately the images will go onto websites and some printed material.
Airplane photography
Tomorrow I’m shooting for the Red Wing Aeroplane Company. We’ll start at 7am to take advantage of the early light coming across the runway. It should add nice color to plane’s exterior even if it the temp is cold. After the sun comes up a bit, the strobes come out and I’ll start the interior photography before moving on to portraits of the owner and lead mechanic. The images are going to be used in brochures and possibly on their website.
New studio space
I spent much of yesterday afternoon getting my new space set up. I was able to get most everything well organized and the new light booth fits great next to my monitor. Color correcting will be much easier now. I decorated the walls with Red Wing Shoe prints, commercial photography samples, head shots, senior portraits, and a few landscape photos as well. I have a busy week coming up. Several doctors are coming in for business portraits and a small product shoot is on the calendar too. As I start expanding more into senior portraits, if you have friends or family that are looking for a photographer, please have them visit my website, www.jloye.com, or email me, info@jloye.com. I’d appreciate any referrals.
